Home Care Instructions
Following proper home care after your dental treatment helps ensure the best healing and long-term results. Below are general guidelines for some of the most common procedures performed at Advanced Smile Solutions. Your doctor may provide additional or customized instructions based on your specific treatment — please follow those directions carefully.
After Dental Fillings
- Mild sensitivity to heat, cold, or pressure is normal for a few days
- Avoid chewing on the treated side until numbness wears off
- Continue brushing and flossing gently
- If discomfort increases after several days, contact our office
After Crowns, Bridges & Restorations
- Temporary restorations require gentle care — avoid sticky or hard foods
- Brush and floss daily, carefully around the temporary restoration
- If a temporary comes loose, please call us for a quick re-cement
- Once your permanent restoration is placed, resume normal oral hygiene
After Dental Extractions
- Bite firmly on the gauze pad for 30–45 minutes to control bleeding
- Avoid smoking, straws, or vigorous rinsing for 24 hours — this prevents dry socket
- Use prescribed medication as directed
- Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling
- Stick to soft foods and maintain hydration
If bleeding is excessive or persists, contact us immediately.
What Makes Prosthodontists Different?
After Implants or Oral Surgery
- Some swelling, minor bleeding, and soreness are normal
- Apply ice packs and take medications as prescribed
- Follow a soft-food diet for the time recommended by your doctor
- Do not disturb the surgical site or stitch area
- Maintain gentle brushing away from the surgical area for several days
Contact us if you experience fever, severe pain, or increasing swelling.
After Teeth Whitening
- Temporary sensitivity may occur — toothpaste for sensitivity can help
- Avoid dark foods/drinks like coffee, red wine, tea, and berries for 48 hours
- Do not smoke for at least one day
Daily Oral Hygiene
- Brush twice daily with a soft-bristle brush
- Clean between teeth daily using floss or recommended tools
